Ferry Ports and Terminals of Tallinn
Last Updated
Tallinn is an important hub for passenger ferry traffic in the Baltic Sea. Many ferries operate from Tallinn, including Eckerö Line, St Peter Line, Tallink Silja and Viking Line. In addition, many cruise ships visit Tallinn each year. Compared to Helsinki or Stockholm, Tallinn is a smaller city and its passenger ferry ports are close to the city center. Ferries are an important part of the Tallinn economy and everyday life for many people.
Tallinn Old City Harbor
Tallinn’s Old City Harbor has two terminals for ferry passengers, Terminal-A and Terminal-D. If arriving from Helsinki, Stockholm or Saint Petersburg, your ferry will likely arrive and depart from Old City Harbor.
Old City Harbor - Terminal-A
Terminal-A has Viking Line ferries from Helsinki, Eckerö Line (Finlandia) from Helsinki, as well as St. Peter Line from Saint Petersburg. Note that St. Peter Line has been out of operation since covid began.
Old City Harbor - Terminal-D
Terminal-D has all Tallink-Silja ships. Tallink is currently the largest ferry operator in Tallinn, and has ferries going to Helsinki and Stockholm from Old City Harbor.
Muuga Harbor
Tallinn’s Muuga Harbor is a cargo harbor located around 16km (10 miles) from the center of Tallinn. There are ferries to Helsinki (Vuosaari Harbor) operated by Tallink-Silja (Sea Wind) and Eckerö Line (Finbo Cargo). These ferries are only available for passengers traveling with vehicles (foot passengers not allowed). We often recommend these ferries to those traveling with vehicles or truck drivers, because they avoid the busy city centers of Tallinn and Helsinki.
